Angel | Bethel, AK

Angel understands the importance of Medicaid through her job as a behavioral health case manager. For villages across the Yukon–Kuskokwim Delta, she coordinates their medical travel to Bethel, Anchorage, and sometimes Seattle – requiring airplane trips that are commonly covered by Medicaid.

But, Angel understands Medicaid best because the program covers her family in times of crisis. When she was diagnosed with cholestasis, a medical condition that stops bile flow in the liver, Medicaid allowed her to access the treatment she needed during a high-risk pregnancy. Medicaid currently helps her husband, who has poor blood circulation in his hips, and is seeking hip surgery so he can work again. As a mom of two healthy children, Angel can continue supporting her family without worrying about medical bankruptcy.
