TAKE ACTION NOW: Write Your Legislator
Tell your legislators that Medicaid Matters to you!
An Alaskan minister with a wife and several young children without private health insurance and an income barely above the poverty level should not have to worry if they can afford a doctor when they’re ill. A woman with rheumatoid arthritis who can no longer do the work she previously did and is searching for new employment should not have to choose between a meal and her medication. An auto mechanic in recovery from heroin addiction struggling to get back on his feet should not be kicked off his health care in his time of need.
That's why Alaska’s Medicaid is there to ensure that our most vulnerable families can get essential health care in time of need.
Unfortunately, thousands of Alaskans could soon lose access to vital Medicaid coverage.
Governor Dunleavy has released his proposed 2020 budget with large cuts to Medicaid services amounting to over $760 million – that is 1/3 in state funds and 2/3 in federal matching funds.
The Medicaid cuts included in Governor Dunleavy’s 2020 budget would drive Alaska deeper into its recession, cause tens of thousands of Alaskans to lose their health coverage, and place health care providers, doctors, community health clinics, and hospitals in financial peril.
At the same time, legislators have proposed to take Medicaid coverage away from Alaskans who do not meet newly proposed work requirements by implementing new, expensive and ineffective regulations resulting in raised healthcare costs for all Alaskans.
But, before these plans move forward, you have the opportunity to stop it.
Submit a written comment telling your legislators your story, why Medicaid matters to you, and that implementing ineffective and expensive Medicaid work requirement regulations are a bad plan for Alaska.
