“When my daughter was two years old, she was constantly getting ear infections. At the time, she lived with her dad in Scammon Bay, flying into Bethel at least twice a month just to be seen by a provider. Each flight cost was almost $500 round-trip. After six months of doctor’s visits, she had to travel to Anchorage for ear tube surgery in order to drain the excessive fluid in her eardrums. Thankfully, the surgery stopped the back-to-back infections and prevented the risk of early hearing loss.”

“Throughout this whole ordeal, her father worked in construction and I worked at a hospital, but Denali KidCare covered the health care travel that we would not have been able to afford. Without Medicaid, my family would have never made it to Bethel for check-ups and Anchorage for surgery.”
